The Health Superpowers of Parks

As Superman soars back onto the big screen this summer, we’re reminded of something simple: you don’t need X-ray vision or a cape to change the world. Sometimes, all it takes is a well-placed park. We believe every community deserves its own version of a hero, a space that strengthens bodies, lifts spirits, and brings people together.

As a study from Trust for Public Land stated, parks provide real-life health superpowers. And right now, communities need them more than ever.

The research from that study is showing what we already know to be true: parks are powerful public health resources. Green spaces promote better mental and physical health outcomes, and they do it affordably, effectively, and equitably.

Built for Wellness, Powered by Play

Designing healthy neighborhoods is about more than dropping in a slide and calling it a day. It’s about building places where people want to move, gather, and grow. From walking trails to outdoor fitness equipment, inclusive playgrounds to peaceful greenspaces, these aren’t just amenities. They spark wellness, boost morale, reduce stress, and create real ripple effects throughout communities.

Wellness isn’t a destination. It’s a daily habit. And parks help make that habit fun.

Designing for Daily Movement

All over the country, cities and organizations are stepping up. They're investing in movement-friendly neighborhoods where people can walk, bike, stretch, and play just steps from their front doors. When physical activity is designed into the neighborhood itself, healthy habits start to feel...well, effortless.

And that’s the beauty of it. The right design turns a piece of land into a launchpad for better living.

Creating Opportunities for Activity

We don’t just build parks. We build momentum. Here are a few ways we turn wellness into action:

  1. Fitness Park + Inclusive Playground
A space that says "yes" to every age and ability. Think outdoor gym stations beside a colorful, inclusive play area so parents and kids can both get their move on.
  2. Tennis + Pickleball Courts
Where friendly competition meets social connection. Pickleball is having a moment, and we’re here for it. These courts create an instant community.
  3. Dog Park + Nature Trails
A win-win for pups and their people. Off-leash zones meet walking loops for shared wellness. Owning a dog is a fitness plan in itself.

Spotlight: Health in Motion in L.A.

In Los Angeles, Kaiser Permanente teamed up to create a fitness park divided into zones, each with a purpose. From therapeutic rehab areas to advanced athletic training and kid-friendly climbing structures, the result was a true intergenerational wellness hub.

Park attendance soared. Illegal activity disappeared. And most importantly? A new sense of community took root. Now that’s the kind of health metric we like to see.
