Background

The West Chicago Park District recognized that its indoor play space at the ARC Center was no longer capturing the attention or imagination of today’s kids. The existing structure had aged, and with increasing competition from screens and digital entertainment, the space needed a complete reimagining, not just an upgrade. The goal was to create something unforgettable that would draw families in and keep them coming back.

The Goal

Rather than replacing old equipment with something standard, the vision was to build a fully immersive, story-driven environment. A space that would spark imagination, encourage active play, and stand out as a destination. The Park District also wanted to demonstrate what’s possible when bold ideas meet creative expertise. By partnering with Wacky World Studios, a PlayCore company, this became an opportunity to push boundaries and create a one-of-a-kind experience—something IMPACT Parks can help bring to life for other communities as well.

The Result

The transformation led to the creation of an indoor jungle adventure that transports visitors into a cinematic, storybook world called Tree Top Escape. From the moment families enter, they’re immersed in a deserted island setting, complete with hand-painted environments, a projected waterfall flowing into a winding river, and a towering treehouse structure at the center. Every detail, from the shipwreck-style check-in desk to the hidden surprises throughout the play structure, was designed to ignite curiosity and exploration. Built with advanced materials and engineering, the space seamlessly blends physical play with immersive storytelling.

The Impact

The new space didn’t just meet expectations—it exceeded them. Tree Top Escape has become a destination, with families booking visits and events weeks in advance. More importantly, it’s changed how children engage with play—pulling them away from screens and into a fully interactive, imaginative environment. This project sets a new standard for what indoor play can be, showing how themed design, technology, and creativity can come together to create lasting impact.
