Background
At Mount Berry Trail Park, the goal was to create more than a traditional playground by designing a true community park. This amenity extends the reach of the existing trail system and demonstrates how shared outdoor spaces can encourage people of all ages to gather, interact, and engage in regular physical activity. With the natural beauty of Rome’s rivers and landscapes, this park has quickly become a place where families, friends, and neighbors come together to experience the benefits of being outdoors. It truly offers something for everyone, whether biking, running, or picnicking; the space supports everyday activity.
This park has become a natural extension of the Mount Berry Trail system, driving strong early use and encouraging visitors to stay and engage. In the first 60 days, it recorded 4,800 visits from 3,500 unique visitors, with peak weekly traffic reaching 820 visits, signaling quick adoption as a community destination.
Designed for all ages, the space supports shared use across the community, with 42% of visitors traveling more than three miles, demonstrating reach beyond the immediate area. Together, these results highlight how thoughtful design can deliver measurable community impact.
Lasting Impact
We're able to help people feel whole, whether that's bringing families together, making memories on the playground, at the end of the day, that's really what we are wanting to accomplish with the playground here.
